THEODIS PARSONS PALMER

Theodis Parsons Palmer, 92, wife of the late Robert John Palmer, transitioned on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Agape Hospice and Suites in Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Sumter.

The public may view during the following times: from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at 304 S. Main St., Sumter; and 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 1200 Fountain Place, Columbia, SC 29223, followed by a family visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Born in Pike County, Missouri, she was the third of four children born to the late Richard and Evelyn Douglas Parsons. Theodis was a graduate of Sumner High School (St. Louis, Missouri) Class of 1943, attended Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri, and graduated from Howard University in the Class of 1949. While at Howard University, she earned a degree in business administration and completed further studies in business at American University, Washington, D.C. She was the first executive director of the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands for more than 44 years. Upon the death of her husband, she became president and owner of Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. - Sumter.

Surviving are two daughters, Lorin Peri Palmer and Vikki Laurence Palmer; one grandson, Palmer A.D. Fielding; a sister, Lois Parsons; and a host of other relatives, staff and friends.
