Three football games rescheduled because of expected bad weather

Three local high schools - Manning, Lee Central and East Clarendon -- have moved their football games scheduled for Friday to Thursday because of the threat of inclement weather on Friday.

Manning will play host to Bishop England at 7 p.m. Lee Central will be at home against Andrew Jackson High at 7:30 p.m., while East Clarendon will be traveling to Johnsonville for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

All of the other games involving local schools are still set for Friday, according to athletic directors.

Sumter still sixth in 5A poll

Sumter High School held steady at No. 6 among 5A schools in the S.C. Prep Media Football Poll released on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks improved to 8-0 on the season with a 38-0 victory over Spring Valley last week. They play at Irmo on Friday with the Region IV-5A title on the line.

The No. 1 teams remain the same in each classification. Dutch Fork is No. 1 in 5A, Hartsville in 4A, Dillon in 3A, Abbeville in 2A and Lamar in 1A.

Middle school title game today

Alice Drive Middle School will face off against undefeated Manning Junior High in the Sumter Middle School Conference championship football game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Sumter Memorial Stadium.

The Monarchs are 7-0 while AD is 5-2.

TSA golf tournament Nov. 5

Registration is being taken for the Thomas Sumter Academy Golf Tournament, which will be held on Nov. 5 at Beech Creek Golf Club.

Entry fee is $45 per player and lunch is included. Check-in is set for 8 a.m. with a shotgun start set for 9:30.
