A red tarp flapped in the pre-summer downpour wind on South Guignard Drive Monday, the coroner's office and first responders using it to shield the body of a 66-year-old Timmonsville man from passing motorists.

Larry Boardwine, of Boardwine Lane, was pronounced dead on the scene from a two-vehicle wreck that occurred about 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kingsbury and Guignard drives, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

The accident involved a dark-colored Ford Explorer and a white Ford F-150 colliding. Sumter County EMS Director Bobby Hingst said the two other people involved were both transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The pickup truck suffered minor damage that was contained to the front of the vehicle at the hood and bumper. The Explorer flipped, Hingst said. Boardwine was found pinned under the rightside-up vehicle, which came to a rest low to the ground on the side of the intersection.

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday morning at MUSC in Charleston.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
