MANNING - Tourie Richardson Briggs, 64, died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at NHC of Sumter.

Born on Jan. 13, 1957, in Manning, he was a son of the late James Richardson Briggs and Mary Spann Richardson Briggs. He was a member of St. Mark's Church in Pinewood. Tourie will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was a true Southern gentleman and was known and admired for his strength and perseverance through a lifetime of health struggles.

He is survived by two sisters, Mary S. "Monk" Briggs of Sumter and Norvelle Ann "Norsy" B. Dawson of Ravenel; two nieces, Kate M. Cooper (Ben) of Sumter and Lebby C. Dawson of Summerton; and a nephew, James "Jake" Jacob of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" B. McClary; and a nephew, Matthew R. Jacob.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mark's Church in Pinewood with the Very Rev. David W.T. Thurlow officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Allen Mathis, Bob Davis, David Tindal, Hartwell Briggs, Roy Belser and Wilson Rickenbaker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dicky Felder, Paul Joseph, Riley Venning and Skip Davis.

The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service.
