A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Friday, Feb. 22, for the grand opening of Palmetto Health-USC Family Medicine's newest practice in Turbeville. The practice at 944 Smith St. will be staffed by longtime Turbeville physician Kate Smith, M.D., and Logan Sims, nurse practitioner. "Without Dr. Kate, I don't know what we'd do. And without this facility, this town would not be what it is today," said Mayor Dwayne Howell during the ceremony. Dr. Smith said, "We intend to deliver the care that we have been known for and that we've always given." The practice offers general health care services for acute illnesses and chronic conditions as well as annual wellness exams. The practice will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Scheduled appointments are recommended. The opening of the Turbeville practice is part of a wider effort by the Medical Group to extend its expertise into the Midlands' rural communities, many of which previously were underserved.
