UConn women beat South Carolina 97-79

HARTFORD, Conn. - Napheesa Collier had 31 points, 16 rebounds and six assists to help No. 4 UConn beat 11th-ranked South Carolina 97-79 on Monday night.

Katie Lou Samuelson added 29 points for the Huskies (22-2), who blew open a close game with a huge third quarter in which they outscored the Gamecocks 29-12. Samuelson scored 14 points in the game-changing quarter. Collier added eight as the two seniors continued to carry UConn.

DALZELL - Thomas Sumter Academy's junior varsity girls basketball team concluded its season with a 24-7 win over Northside Christian School on Monday at Edens Gymnasium.

Leah Stokes led the Lady Generals, who finish the year with a 7-9 record, with six points while pulling down six rebounds. Porter Laney had eight rebounds while scoring three points.

On Friday in Kingstree, TSA lost to Williamsburg Academy 15-14. Mary Lenoir Hoge scored six points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Savanna Price had six points and six steals.

AP Source: Antonio Brown asks Steelers for trade

PITTSBURGH - Antonio Brown wants out of Pittsburgh. A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press the perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver has asked the Steelers for a trade.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not permitted to publicly discuss personnel matters.

Panthers re-sign safety Eric Reid to 3-year deal

CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have re-signed safety Eric Reid to a three-year contract that runs through the 2021 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced Monday.

Reid joined the Panthers in Week 4 of last season after spending five seasons with the 49ers. He started all 13 games played and had 73 tackles, five pass breakups, one interception and a sack.
