The University of South Carolina Sumter announced on Monday it will be adding two sports to its athletic program: men's golf in the fall of 2019 and women's soccer in the fall of 2020.

"This is our first time for men's golf and we're reinstating women's soccer," USC Sumter athletic director Adrienne Cataldo said.

Cataldo is currently searching for coaches for the teams.

"We're doing interviews for a men's golf coach, and then we'll do interviews for the women's soccer position," Cataldo said.

For women's soccer, Cataldo plans to hire a coach by the summer to start the recruiting process.

USC Sumter already has men's soccer and women's golf, so now it's adding a program for the opposite sex for both.

"We started off with men's soccer and women's golf, and now we're adding the other half to both of those," Cataldo said.

The sports were added because of the high demand for both sports.

"We're extremely excited," Cataldo said. "Many people in the community express interest in both."

Cataldo has high hopes for the two new programs.

"We expect those teams coming in will have the same excellence as our other programs," she said.
