USC Sumter reopening partially

USC Sumter will partially reopen its campus beginning on Tuesday for class registration and other student services.

A college spokesperson included various details of the initial phase of the return-to-campus plan, which will include face masks and social distancing, in a news release Wednesday.

In the first phase, some college employees will return to campus to mainly help students who need to register for classes and answer any questions they may have about attending USC Sumter.

Hours of operation in the first phase will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with after-hours services available on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. According to the release, the following five departments will be open initially: admissions; advising and registration; financial aid; the Opportunity Scholars Program; and the education department.

The college said prospective students wanting to apply for admission as a new freshman should have their high school send official transcripts ahead of time. Similarly, new transfer students should have all previous colleges send official transcripts. Those documents should be emailed to suadmiss@uscsumter.edu.

According to the release, new or transfer students interested in being advised or in class registration are asked to bring their proof of acceptance, VIP ID number and proof of citizenship, which may be a driver's license, birth certificate, military ID (active-duty only) or passport.

Any person visiting USC Sumter must wear a mask at all times and maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet between individuals, the release states.

All visitors to campus must first report to the Williams Brice Edwards Administration Building at 200 Miller Road. Employees will then direct visitors to the appropriate staff members for assistance.
