VERNON LEE MYERS

Posted

Vernon Lee Myers, known as "Vern," was born on June 7, 1962, and departed this life on Feb. 11, 2021. Vernon was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the third child of six born to the union of his mother, Lillie Mae Myers (Brooklyn, New York), and the late John Wesley Myers.Vernon's former years were spent in Brooklyn, New York, where he enjoyed school, neighborhood sports and his favorite pastime activity was chasing girls. At the age of 17, he decided school was not for him and immediately found a company willing to hire him to lay wood floors. Soon after as he started this job, he recognized he had a talent for repairing, improving and building homes. Most importantly, he realized he could make money in this field and set his own schedule. From that the time on, "the time clock went out the window."

Raised in New York, as a child he always enjoyed his summer vacation in South Carolina, when given the opportunity to visit. He then decided on a life change and moved to South Carolina. He quickly learned that he enjoyed the freedom that living in the South provided him.

Vernon loved life, he loved his family, he loved laughter and saw humor in every situation. He treated everyone like they were special and like family. He treated women, no matter who they were, like they were queens. There was never a time when his family called him for help that he would not try his best to be there to lend a hand.

Vernon leaves to mourn: his mother, Lillie Mae Myers of Brooklyn, New York; his six children, Tiffany Rabb of Georgetown, and Dejuan Rabb, Lamar Rabb, Veronica Rabb, Tyra Rabb and Jason Rabb, all of Brooklyn, New York; 13 grandchildren, Teaira Trotman, Jayla England and Jayden England of Georgetown, and Juwan, Leainna, Jamiah, Jamir, Prince, Princess, Lillie, Joel, Santana and Don Juan, all of Brooklyn, New York; six siblings, John, Delores, Betty, Patricia and Mary Myers of Brooklyn, New York, and the Rev. Thomasina Moses of Mayesville; a special and dear companion, Ms. Carol Blair; 17 nieces and nephews; and a list of cousins, relatives and friends too numerous to count.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home, 920 Collins St., Sumter.
