A new medical clinic for veterans is coming to Sumter.
The unanimous approval by Sumter City Council of a request to rezone about 6 acres at 235 N. Bultman Drive paved the way on Tuesday for the 26,000-square-foot clinic.

Now formerly Residential Multi-Family, the request from Kai Burk with Bowman Consulting Group was for a Professional Office zoning on the undeveloped land. The property is surrounded by apartments and the Sumter Mall.
The area is zoned with the intention to have a suburban living corridor with residential and commercial mingled.
The S.C. Department of Veterans Affairs will run the clinic, according to Valerie Brunson, director of Veterans Affairs in Sumter County. She said she is supposed to receive an update on Dec. 18 on information such as timeline and facility details.
