Sumter School District's Sumter Teacher Forum hosted its first of three Meet-the-Candidates forums in the Sumter High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The purpose of the forums is to give candidates running for Sumter school board the opportunity to answer questions and explain why they would be the best candidate for their district (or area). Questions were based on surveys to district employees and eventually narrowed down to five. Each candidate is given two minutes to elaborate on the topic. Meet-the-Candidate forums will continue Wednesday at Lakewood High School’s fine arts center and Thursday night at Crestwood High School’s fine arts center. Both begin at 6 p.m. with a 30-minute meet-and-greet period. Candidates from Tuesday night shown by district or area: Area 3: Ralph Canty, Johnny Hilton; Area 8: Phil Leventis, Sherril Ray, Paul Robbins, Jeff Zell; Area 9: Bonnie Disney, Reggie Evans.
