Viewers using antennas need to rescan TVs to watch WLTX

At 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, WLTX (Columbia's CBS affiliate) will be moving frequencies. Viewers who watch WLTX, Antenna TV, The Justice Network and Quest over the air with an antenna must rescan their TVs to continue receiving the station. Rescanning instructs a TV receiver to find all the channels in an area.

There is no need to purchase new equipment or services. Those who watch WLTX through a cable or satellite service do not need to rescan; the service provider will do it.

WLTX will activate all new transmission equipment including two new transmitters, new transmission line and a new antenna at the same time. This new equipment will provide the clearest and best signal possible.

This change is mandated by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC is freeing up more spectrum space for wireless internet broadband services and is requiring WLTX and nearly 1,000 other TV stations nationwide to move to new frequencies. TV stations must move frequencies at the date required by the FCC.

To rescan on Wednesday, select "scan," "autotune," or "channel search" on the TV or converter box control menu to start the process. Instructions are usually available by pressing the "set-up" or "menu" buttons on the remote control. For more information, visit WLTX.com.
