VIOLA FORD AMOS

Viola Ford Amos, 102, was born on May 3, 1918, in Sumter, to the late Carrie Allen and Marion Hastie. Widow of Shaw Amos, she departed this life on Sunday, April 25, 2021, in Miami, Florida.

Reared by grandmother Harriett Ford, she received her formal education in the public school system of Sumter County. She moved to Maryland with her husband in 1943. She was employed with the Chemical Service of Baltimore before retiring. A faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Baltimore, she joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church after returning to Sumter.

She is survived by her caring daughters, Felisza Nichols of Florida, Edith (Rabbit) Maybell of Sumter and Caroline Allen of Baltimore; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Eartha Lee Frierson of Sumter; and a host of other relatives.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Sumter Funeral Service.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hillside Memorial Park with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating.
