VIRGINIA MAPLE SINGLETON

Virginia Maple Singleton was born on Dec. 10, 1957, in Sumter, a daughter of the late James W. and Annie Bell Logan Singleton. She began her eternal journey on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, when she peacefully slipped away quietly from her family.

Ms. Singleton was a 1978 graduate of Hillcrest High School. After graduation, she ventured to Hoboken, New Jersey, where she graduated from cosmetology school. Virginia enjoyed doing hair and loved kids. She was a great caregiver to children and adults. Ms. Singleton joined High Hill AME Church at an early age. In her later years, she was attending Kingdom M-Pact Church and Bethesda Church of God in Sumter.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving and devoted siblings, five sisters, Annie Lee (Lee) Davis, Rosa (Belvin) Hunter and Geneva (Peter) Davis, all of Sumter, Barbara (Oliver) King of New Jersey and Annie Bell Singleton of Columbia; three brothers, Ernest (Grace) Singleton of Maryland, Charlie "Her Twin" (Ann) Singleton and Joseph Singleton of Sumter; special friends, Deacon Corbett and Martha Grant-Scott of Fredericksburg, Virginia, whom she referred to as her "Angels"; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Virginia Moore and Rebecca King; and two brothers, James Singleton Jr. and Willie Lee Singleton.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Ms. Singleton will be placed in the church at 9 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Linda M. Speed, eulogist, and Deacon Corbett L. Scott Sr. presiding. Interment will follow at High Hill AME Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1825 Raccoon Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
