Ms. Vivian Tindal Cox, 83, transitioned peacefully from this earth to her eternal rest on Jan. 24, 2018.

She was the youngest of five children born to the late Julius and Nettie Montgomery Tindal. Vivian enjoyed spending time at her father's store and meandering about the large farm her father owned. She was educated in the Sumter County school system, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1952, and graduating from Allen University, Columbia. At Allen, she became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Vivian was a faithful and active member of Mount Pisgah AME Church throughout her childhood and young adulthood. Ms. Cox began teaching home economics at Eastern High School while simultaneously obtaining her master's degree from South Carolina State College. In 2002, she returned to Sumter after 30 years in Queens, New York, to be closer to her son, Ivan Cox. Ms. Cox enjoyed joining the YMCA, VFW Auxiliary 10813 and hosting the annual King Day Celebration.

Preceding Vivian in death are her parents and stepmother; four siblings, Frank, Ruby, Willie and Florence; two grandsons, Ivan Jr. and Matthew; and three nephews, Ronald Freeman Jr., Vandell Tindal and Connie Tindal.

Vivian leaves to honor her memory: her beloved and cherished son, Ivan (Lakeshia) Cox; her grandson, Mason Cox of Blythewood; and many other dear relatives and friends.
