Voting is open today through Feb. 29 at www.theitem.com/bestof and select days via print ballots appearing in The Sumter Item in more than 300 categories and between more than 3,000 nominees.
With the ability to vote once per day in every category, voters have the chance to support their favorite business, restaurant, professional, medical service, educational institution, menu item, retailer and more.
New categories this year include Best College Professor, Best Adult Day Center, Best Pediatrician and Best Girls Night Out, among others.
Returning categories include last year's first of a Best of the Best section, which will award the Best New Business based on what opened in 2019, Best Boss, Best Locally Owned Business, Best Place to Work and Best Expo Booth, which will be based on the vendors attending the second-annual Best Of Sumter Nominee Expo. The expo will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Central Carolina Technical College's Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center, 853 Broad St. The public is invited to attend for free and sample products from participating nominees and collect free swag. Food samples from nominees will be provided. The expo and voting leads up to Thursday, April 30, when winners will be announced at the Best Of Sumter Red Carpet Event, a winners celebration gala. Winners each receive a free window cling and framed recognition and will be included in the Best Of Sumter 2020 magazine, which will be released inside The Sumter Item's Saturday, May 2-3, Weekend Edition. No purchase is necessary to vote or win, though nominees can boost their visibility in the contest by participating in the expo and promoting their nominations via The Sumter Item's multiple channels. It is not necessary to be a subscriber to The Sumter Item to vote daily. To promote your nomination, contact your sales representative or email email@example.com.
