A 26-year-old Wedgefield man succumbed to injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle wreck in Sumter County Wednesday afternoon.

William Saddler, of Alcott Drive, died at Prisma Health Richland on Jan. 30, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

Saddler was heading north on South Saint Pauls Church Road between the intersections at McCrays Mills Road and Cains Mill Road in Sumter County about 1:06 p.m. when his 2016 Nissan Sentra ran off the right side of the road, striking a culvert entry, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.

He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Southern said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Saddler was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital, where he passed away.

Saddler’s next of kin has been notified, Baker said, and an autopsy will be performed on Thursday at MUSC in Charleston.

The incident remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
