Funeral services for Wilhemena Nelson Sanders will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, 2445 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.

The public may view from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Sanders, 91, transitioned on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late George Nelson Sr. and Emma Blanding Nelson. She was the wife of Samuel Sanders of Sumter.

Wilhemena was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She attended Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, and served faithfully on several ministries to include: president of the Senior Missionary Society, Church School Class 10, Bible Study, Sunday School Class of Contemporary Women and president of the Young Women Auxiliary (YWA). She was self-employed as a domestic worker. She was a dedicated wife and wonderful homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Nelson Jr.

Survivors include her husband of the home, Samuel Sanders; one daughter, Valarie A. Sanders-Wells of Sumter; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Lillian) Nelson of Brooklyn, New York; a sister-in-law, Rebecca W. Nelson of Sumter; and a host of other relatives and friends
