WILLIAM GARDNER JACKSON

Posted

William Gardner "Pete" Jackson, 83, was removed from our midst by God on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1936, to the late Moodie Jackson and Angeline Gallashaw Jackson Davis. He was raised in the Dalzell community and, in his early years, attended Sumter Second Presbyterian Church. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Pete's first job away from the farm was with Sumter Rewinding Co., where he worked for several years. He was later employed at Campbell Soup, which is now Goldkist, until he retired. After he married the love of his life, Annie Mae "Sue" Grant, they established their membership at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and were faithful members, until their health began to fail. While worshiping at Ebenezer, Pete served as the grounds keeper, member of the gospel choir and deacon board.

Pete is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annie Mae "Sue" Jackson; two sons, Henry Jackson and Robert Jackson, both of Sumter; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Rosa Deese of Sumter; one great-aunt, Victoria Gallashaw of Dalzell; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2450 Stover Lane, Dalzell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (USA), 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, moderator, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.

The funeral procession will leave at 1:50 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Ebenezer Presbyterian Churchyard cemetery.

These services are entrusted to the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
