Women's shooting organization invites new members for learning, training

The Well Armed Woman Shooting Chapters is a national nonprofit organization founded by Carrie Lightfoot in 2013. Focusing on educating, equipping and empowering women across the country, TWAW - with more than 10,500 members across the U.S. - is the largest and most trusted women's organization for women interested in learning more about firearms and training.

Gun ownership and the complex laws surrounding the use of firearms is a significant topic. The 2017 Pew Research Center reported that 47% percent of American households currently own a gun, and 22% percent of women personally own a firearm. With women being the largest-growing segment of this historically male-dominated demographic, the industry scrambles to meet their needs.

For women new to shooting, the male-driven industry can be intimidating.

That is where TWAW comes into play.

TWAW Sumter / Manning Chapter, which launched in November 2013, is spearheaded by Debbie Brown, Donna VanRas and Melinda Meyer. Events are held monthly and are open to women that can legally possess a firearm. TWAW has partnered with Fully Loaded to be the host range for these monthly events. Time will be devoted to discussion and classroom education as well as time on the range learning and practicing safe gun handling skills.

Participants may be required to pay $15 range fees and cost of ammunition or optional firearm rentals (if available). Annual chapter membership dues of $50 offer members local and national discounts, a chapter hat and member kit and are used to cover chapter expenses, insurance and events. First-time attendees are not required to join.

Meetings are held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month at Fully Loaded, 1510 Graysville Highway, Manning.
