Police unit involved in crash
No injuries in two vehicle incident

A Sumter Police Department unit was involved in a two-vehicle accident around noon Friday at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Hampton Avenue. A 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling west on Lafayette and reportedly failed to stop at a traffic signal. The police car, traveling south of Hampton Avenue, was struck on the right side near the grill as it attempted to make a right turn onto Lafayette,
No injuries were reported in the accident.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Lance Jones said Jason Gainey, of Sumter, was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal.
The investigated into the incident by the SCHP is continuing.
