Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Reading Program Breakfast set for Oct. 20 in Sumter

Program provides books, bags and school supplies for children

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Eta Zeta Omega Chapter, will host its Annual Reading Program Breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 320 W. Fulton St.

This benefit to promote literacy provides books for children pre-K to third grade, book bags and school supplies.

“Breakfast, Bakery and Books” is the theme for the event. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through Oct. 13 by calling Virginia King at (803) 773-1305 or Dr. Zona Jefferson at (803) 469-6484. Sponsorships are available for the following amounts: $250, 12 tickets; $100, 5 tickets; $50, 2 tickets; and $25, l ticket. Mail checks to AKA Reading Program, P.O. Box 1444, Sumter, SC before Oct. 13.

The sorority’s goal is to promote reading and encourage young children to read.
