Anne Stafford Carlisle, 99, widow of Homer Clement Carlisle Jr., died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Covenant Place.

Born in Orr, Oklahoma, she was a daughter of the late John Alvin Stafford and Ethel Luvenia Rodgers Stafford. Mrs. Carlisle was a member of Harmony Church. For more than two decades, she taught kindergarten and managed youth programs in the Sumter community. She began working for the Parks and Recreation Department in the early 1960's. Following that, she was the director of the kindergarten program at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member. She finished her career at Wilson Hall School. She touched the lives of hundreds of young people in Sumter, and many came to visit her while at Covenant Place, where she was a resident for more than 17 years.

Survivors include a son, H. Clem Carlisle III (Janis) of Midlothian, Virginia; a daughter, Maureen Carlisle of Sumter; four grandchildren, Paige Trebour (Chris), Leslie Buck (Chris), Charles Carlisle (Heather) and Maj. Anthony Ching (Krista); 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Carlisle Harris.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber officiating.

Pallbearers will be Charles G. Carlisle, Maj. Anthony P. Ching, Christopher T. Trebour, Lakin C. Trebour, Conner C. Trebour and Tanner E. Ratliff.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
