Anthony "Cut" Smith Sr. was born on Dec. 21, 1959, in Sumter, to Rosa Lee Lincoln Smith and the late Claude M. Smith Sr. He was called to rest on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.

He was married to the love of his life, Wanda Ballard Smith, on Nov. 4, 1979; to this union, they were blessed with four children. Anthony attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1978 graduate of Sumter High School. He joined the U.S. Army in April of 1979. He was a wired technician, a como shop and truck driver in the Army. He was honorably discharged in April of 1982 from active duty. He then served for 10 years in the Army Reserve. As a lifelong member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he served on the junior and senior usher boards.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Rosa Lee Lincoln Smith; his devoted wife of the home, Wanda Ballard Smith; two sons, Anthony L. Smith Jr. of the home and Sgt. 1st Class Christopher M. (Tavia) Smith of San Diego; one daughter, Antionette L. Smith (Jordan) of Sumter; eight grandchildren, Jamir, JaZyriah, Jai-Tron, Jason, Jordan, Jalante, Treazure and Malik; two sisters, Eartha Smith Lesane and Juanita Smith Daniels of Sumter; two god sisters, Janie Lincoln of Ocean Spring, Mississippi, and Getrude Lincoln of Sumter; three sisters-in-law, Mosetta (Calvin) Brooks, Brenda (Tyrone) Thames of Compton, California, and Caroline Witherspoon of Sumter; four brothers-in-law, Leroy (Carolyn) Ballard, Dewey (Patricia) Ballard, Moses (Peggy) Ballard and Herbert Ballard of Sumter; 19 nephews; 13 nieces; 16 grandnephews; 16 grandnieces; nine aunts; five uncles; and a host of other relatives and many friends who are deeply grieved by his untimely passing.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Antonio Smith; his daughter, Christina Turkessa Smith; father, Claude M. Smith Jr.; two sisters; two brothers; paternal grandparents, Claude Sr. and Vermell Smith; and maternal grandparents, Henry and Josephine Lewis and Robert Earl Anderson.

Public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Smith will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 326 W. Fulton St., Sumter, SC 29150 with Dr. James Blassingame, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 100 Hoyt Heights, Sumter, SC 29150.
