Betty Ann Green Clanton, 88, wife of the late Rev. Charles T. Clanton, retired U.S. Army colonel, died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter.

Born on April 29, 1935, in Shiloh, she was a daughter of the late LeRoy and Elizabeth Green. Betty Ann grew up in Shiloh until graduating Sherwood School when she moved to Greenville to attend Furman University where, among her other activities, she met her future husband. Having spent her first 18 years in one place, her marriage to Charles would change all that as she went on to live in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia as well as England and Germany. She was a member of First Baptist Church Sumter.

Survivors include three children, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Charles Clanton of Atlanta, Dean Timothy Clanton (Traci) of Cumming, Georgia, and Elizabeth Ann Niedzwiecki (Abe) of Athens, Alabama; four grandchildren, Rachel Bloemer (Keith), Nick Niedzwiecki (Jordan), Sarah Niedzwiecki and Isaac Niedzwiecki; five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Caroline, Lena, Emma and Harlow; a number of nieces and nephews; and four sisters, Barbara Fengl, Miriam Baker, Nancy Green and Doris Bristow.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church, Sumter. Burial will be in Shiloh Memorial Gardens, 8705 Woods Bay Road, Lynchburg, SC 29080.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church.
