Betty Lou Houston, 88, wife of the late James “Buck” Leroy Houston, entered her eternal home on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia.

Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Oconee County, she was daughter of the late Thomas Joseph “Tom” Patton and Minnie Idell Hughes Patton. Mrs. Houston was a member and attended the Pocalla Holiness Church. She was a full-time mother who loved all seven of her children and enjoyed playing with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children, Paul Houston of Gaston, Ricky Houston of Taylors, Kim Tetzlaff (Glenn) of Wisconsin, Chris Houston (Jennifer) of Sumter, the Rev. Dr. Charles Houston (Betsy) of Summerville and Jonathan Houston (Jennifer) of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Johnson (Lyndon) of Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years; a son, Tim Houston; and a grandson, David “Malachi” Houston.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Robbie Harden and the Rev. Clyde Chan. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Floyd, Trae Smoak, William McCoy, Jason Tidwell, Neal Welch and Raymond Tennant.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.
