Man, 26, shot dead in Cherryvale roadway

The body of a 26-year-old man was found lying in the road in the Cherryvale community Monday night.
Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the 4400 block of Amelia Drive to find Christopher Archie, of Sumter, appeared to have been shot once, according to Ken Bell, public information officer for the agency, and Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
“This appears to have been an isolated incident, and we do not think there is any danger to the community,” Bell said in an email Tuesday morning. “However, the investigation is continuing.”
Archie was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m., and his family has been notified.
An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday, Dec. 20 in Newberry.
