Charleston couple found safe at home, according to Sumter Police Department

*UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: Sumter Police Department issued a statement this afternoon that the Chambers couple has been found.

"Bettye and Joe Chambers are now home and safe," said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department.

Sumter police need the communty's help in locating a Charleston couple that never returned home after leaving a house in Sumter on Wednesday.
Bettye, 79, and Joe Chambers, 86, were last seen in Sumter leaving a house on Winn Street about 3 p.m. to return to Charleston.
The couple is traveling in a white 2006 PT Cruiser with a black top and S.C. license tag EWR578.
