City of Sumter will collect junk piles into next week

The City of Sumter announced Thursday afternoon on its Facebook page the city is extending its contract with the third party hired to collect items across the city for the one-time junk removal program that began Monday.

"Due to the high volume of participation, the City of Sumter is extending our contract with the removal company to ensure that the junk piles are collected into next week. Please be patient and leave your items by the curb," the city posted.

The post also told residents who hadn't put their piles of junk out for collection by last Sunday not to place new items by the roadside for collection, as they may not be picked up.
