Dorothy Clark Deas, wife of James Deas, transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

She was born on Aug. 8, 1948, in Aliceville, Alabama, a daughter of the late Edmond and Annie Williams Clark. She was educated in the public schools of Alabama and graduated from R.J. Kersey High School. Upon graduation, she relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where she was employed by the Agency for Child Development. While living in Brooklyn, she met the love of her life, James Deas, whom she affectionately called "Deas." After her husband retired, they then moved to Mayesville, where she became employed by Blue Ridge (former Hopewell Nursing Facility).

She leaves to cherish her precious memories and carry on her legacy of love: her loving husband of 37 years, James Deas; three sisters, Liz McCollins, Evonne (Ken) Coleman of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Annie Miller of Aliceville; four brothers, Eddie (Mary) Williams, Daniel (Dorothy) Clark of Chicago, George (Geneva) Clark of Aliceville and Warren (Cookie) Clark of Cleveland; two aunts, Josie Smith and Martha Williams, both of Chicago; four sisters-in-law, Annie D. Atkins, the Rev. Irene D. Anthony and the Rev. Marie D. (the Rev. Alvin) Webb, all of Sumter, and Sarah D. (George) Gibson of Mayesville; one brother-in-law, Roman Deas of Sumter; a devoted and close friend, Mary McCollum of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who she adored.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and eight brothers.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Deas will be placed in the church at noon on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 126 E. Sumter St., Mayesville, SC 29104, with the Rev. Alberta Myers officiating and Pastor Eugene Myers, eulogist.

The family will receive friends at the home, 3910 Third St., Mayesville, SC 29104.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
