EARTHA M. BROWN TAYLOR WIGGINS

Posted

Eartha M. Brown Taylor Wiggins, the oldest daughter of the late Wearing and Lue Bertha Deas Brown, entered into this world April 25, 1924. She was brought up in Sumter County and the Dalzell community. She attended the Joshua Elementary School from first through eighth grade. She also attended the Ebenezer High School for two years. Eartha made a vow to the Lord in August 1940 and became a member of the Joshua Baptist Church. Eartha served on the usher board and second junior choir.
In 1941, Eartha entered into marriage to the late Daniel Taylor Jr. They made two decisions -- to make Washington, D.C., their home and to join Bible Way Baptist Church. In the year 1942, God blessed this union with a beautiful baby girl, Bertha Taylor Tucker. After seven years of living in Washington, D.C, Eartha returned to Dalzell, where she resided for two and a half years. Eartha loved South Carolina but couldn't make a living doing farm work so it was decision-making time again. In 1951, Eartha moved to Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Eartha was first employed at Dura Batteries for seven years. Then she made a move for the better to RCA Radio Corp of America in Harrison, New Jersey, where she remained for 20 years.
In the year of 1970, Eartha met William Clinton Wiggins. They entered into marriage March 18, 1972. Eartha’s life was blessed with an extended family including one son, William F. Wiggins, and two beautiful daughters, Mary (Liz) Wiggins Jenkins and Eleise (Lisa) Wiggins Hudson. The family resided in the town of Linden, New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, the family joined, worked and worshiped at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, under the late Rev. William Moore and the late Rev. Walter G. Haley. In 1977, they returned to South Carolina. The family joined Eartha’s home church, Joshua Baptist Church. Eartha worked with the Missionary Ministry, the Trustee and Trustee Wives Ministry. She was a member of the senior choir where she also served as secretary. She was also a member of the First Sunday Choir plus many other ministries, where she remained until her health began to fail. Eartha attended Sunday School and loved Bible study. Her motto was, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Eartha leaves to cherish her memory: one son, William Francis Wiggins of Townsend, Delaware; three daughters, Bertha Taylor Tucker of Elgin, Mary Wiggins (John) Jenkins of Camden and Eleise Wiggins (Jeffrey) Hudson of Elgin; one brother, John L. (Josephine) Brown of Newport, Rhode Island; one sister, Bertha Brown Germin of Queens, New York; extended sisters, Diane (Jeff Jefferson) of South Carolina and Mary Sue Dennis of New York; two brothers, Roosevelt (Selena Deas) of Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Deas of Newport News, Virginia.
