Ethel Lee Choice Gavin came into her season of birth on July 10, 1944, in Sumter, to the late Ethel Johnson and Charlie Choice Sr.

At an early age, Ethel joined High Hills AME Church, where she served on the Emma Louise Missionary Society, sang with various choirs, was a class leader, a member of the floral club, a formal steward and trustee board member, a stewardess member and founder/CEO of the Golden Girls of Sumter.

On Aug. 6, 1966, Ethel married the love of her life, the late Richard Lee Gavin Sr., and from this union a child was born, Richard Lee Gavin II.

Ethel worked as a cafeteria employee with Sumter School District 2 for more than 30 years. She also worked at Atkinson West Community Residential as a certified disability aide.

Ethel Lee transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018.

Ethel leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Richard II (Carolyn) Gavin of Wedgefield and Brandon (Kearston) Franklin of Orangeburg; two stepchildren, Sharon (Joseph) Williams of Queens, New York, and Herbert Davis of Dalzell; one sister, Amelia Dawson of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Charlie (Sheila) Choice Jr. of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Johnny) Wigfall and Ida Lee (Larry Sr.) Nathaniel, both of Wedgefield; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Idell) Gavin of Columbia and William (Rebecca) Gavin of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her siblings, Samuel Johnson, Estelle Frazier, Willie Mae Singleton and Rosa Mae Bolden; and several nieces and nephews.

Public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Gavin will be placed in the church at noon on Wednesday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at High Hills AME Church, 6780 Meeting House Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Keith R. Mayes officiating. Interment will follow at High Hills Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 145 ALG Road, Wedgefield.
