GEORGE REMBERT JR.

Posted

George Rembert Jr. was born on March 14, 1941, in Sumter, to the late George Sr. and Rebecca Brailsford Rembert. God, in His infinite wisdom, called him from labor to reward on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024.

He was the second born of eight children. George was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School Class of 1961.

George was united in holy matrimony to Bernice Jackson Rembert on July 3, 1966. To their union, two children were born.

George accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Joshua Baptist Church. George served his church faithfully, until his health failed. He was a member of the pastor's aide and the homecoming committee. He served as a trustee (former chairman), usher and choir member. He was dedicated and served with a willing heart and joyful spirit. George loved God, his pastor and his church. George was employed by E.I. Dupont in Camden and retired in 1998 after 29 years of service. Shortly after retiring, he returned to Dupont and worked an additional two years. Although he was a hard-working man, he always took time to enjoy life. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and watching football games. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Clemson Tigers fan. George was known for wanting to look his best and could be counted on to be "sharp as a tack" every Sunday morning. He never met a stranger and would quickly engage those that he met in conversation.

George leaves to cherish fond memories: his loving wife, Bernice; two loving children, George Derrick Rembert of Dalzell and Sonja Rembert of Charlotte, North Carolina; a niece whom he reared in the home as a daughter, Rachel (Jack) Wilson of St. Matthews; grandchildren, two reared in the home, Dante Linder and Dh'Estin Rembert, and Kayla Wilson and Jack A. Wilson of St. Matthews; his sister, Mary Rembert of Orangeburg; two brothers, Ashby Rembert of Sumter and James (Kitty) Rembert of Bronx, New York; a sister-in-law, Ernestine (Lucious) Pringle of Sumter; two brothers-in-law, James (Thomasina) Jackson and Robert Lee (Maxine) Jackson of Sumter; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; close friends, Louise Moore, Charlie Bradley and James (Tena) Richardson; church family; neighbors; and beloved friends.
