Harden Lewis Jr., son of Ruth Brown Lewis and the late Harden Lewis, Sr., was born May 15, 1960, in Sumter County. He departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at his residence in Pinewood, South Carolina.

Harden attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, he joined St. Paul AME Church (Shaw), Sumter, where he remained a member until the time of his death. Harden possessed special love for his family, friends and his community. He was definitely the life of the party. He was a hardworking man and enjoyed driving trucks for more than 40 years. Harden was an Army veteran.

Harden was united in marriage to Georgia Madison Lewis for nine-and-a-half years. They had three children, Crystal (Earl) Fulwood and Katrina McKnight, both of Sumter, and Jamel McKnight of Pinewood.

He also leaves to cherish his memories: seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Michelle (Jimmy) Morris of MaComb Township, Michigan, and Pamela Lewis of Sumter; one brother, Patrick (Barbra) Lewis of Spring Lake, North Carolina; his father-in-law, George L. Madison of Pinewood; two aunts, Annette Wright of Newport News, Virginia, and Alberta McGuire of Springfield Garden, New York; one uncle, Willie (Mary) Brown of Orlando, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Susie (Edward) White of Columbia, Loretta Madison of Pinewood and Barbara J. Madison of New York City, New York; three brothers-in-law, William (Aletha) Shannon and Leroy (Maxine) Madison of Pinewood and Louis (Christine) Madison of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home of his mother, 4326 Rosewood Drive, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. Paul AME Church (Shaw), 1495 N. St. Pauls Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until time of services.

The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a.m.

Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Florence National Cemetery, 803 E. National Cemetery Road, Florence.
