Toll collections will resume on the Cross Island Parkway on Hilton Head Island at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday September 18.

Tolls had been suspended to assist with coastal evacuations  as Hurricane Florence approached the state.

The Cross Island Parkway provides a tolled expressway between the north end of the Island on US 278 to the southern end.

State Forester Scott Phillips has lifted the statewide burning ban, effective immediately. Forestry Commission officials still urge vigilance when burning outdoors.

The ban was issued last Wednesday because of the limited availability of statewide firefighting resources and personnel, many of whom had been deployed to eastern counties for hurricane evacuation, response, assessment and/or cleanup.

Though Hurricane Florence has moved on from South Carolina, it left behind inches of rain that continue to fall, causing major flooding in northeastern parts of the state.

South Carolina Department of Transportation announced the closing of Interstate 95, which runs along the east coast, because of significant flooding between mile marker 181 and 190, according to a news release.

North Carolina DOT has closed Interstate 95 between mile markers 65 and 81.

Flood control activities, such as the placement of barriers in flood-prone areas, are also in place along U.S. 501 and U.S. 378, as of 4 p.m. on Sunday.

In District 1 — which includes Sumter and Lee counties — 105 trees have been cleared from roadways between Sunday and Monday.

Eighteen trees were reportedly cleared from roadways in District 7 which includes Clarendon County.

Operations in Districts 1 and 7 have returned to normal with on-call crews handling emergency needs in District 7.
