JAMES O. "JAN" OLIVER JR.

James O. "Jan" Oliver Jr., 69, widower of Pamela Winstead Oliver, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on April 27, 1954, in Florence, he was a son of Emogene Anderson Oliver and the late James O. Oliver Sr. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the choir. He retired from the Sumter School District as a math teacher. He was the owner of Children's Bootery for many years.

Survivors include his mother; two children, Renee Oliver (Tom Voyt) of Sumter and Jamie Oliver (Stacy) of St. Simons Island, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Ryan Rickman, Griffin West (Laurel), Kennedy West, Elizabeth Oliver, Jay Oliver, Blake Oliver and Sophia Oliver; a great-grandson, Jaxon Johnson; a brother, Kent Oliver (Neecie) of Sumter; nieces, Stephanie McCormick (Deron), Becky Craft (Donny), Kimberly MacCumbee (Matt) and Blake Brookens (Chris); and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Shumake officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Rickman, Neal Lane, Ross Motley, Chris Brookens, Jay Floyd and Carson Floyd.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his mother.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Crescent Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Oliver.
