LESLEY HAYNESWORTH JR.

Posted

Lesley “Shunny” Haynesworth Jr., affectionately known as “Jumping John”, was born on April 23, 1934, to the late Lesley Haynesworth Sr. and Wilhelmenia Jackson Haynesworth in Sumter County. He was married to the late Pearlie Carroll Haynesworth. Lesley was called to eternal rest on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the home of his daughter, Ruby Mae Ford, Sumter. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church  (U.S.A.) of Dalzell,  where he was active until his health declined. He served faithfully as a trustee, an usher, a member of the gospel choir, board of deacons and Presbyterian Men’s Organization. When the church had a van to pick up members for the church services, he drove the van.
Lesley loved the Lord. He was not ashamed of how he praised the Lord. He would run down the church aisle, jumping, clapping his hands, shouting and praising God.
Lesley received his formal education from the Ebenezer School. He worked for Maxwell Brothers Furniture Store for more than 30 years. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, James Haynesworth; eight daughters, Ruby Mae Ford, Linda (Kelvin) Haynesworth Allen, Delores (Tony) Haynesworth Bussey, Wanda Jean Haynesworth, Amy Carroll, Angela (Thomas) Canty, Patricia Wiley and Susie Stuckey; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; three nieces, Roselee Williams aka (Branda), Vicky Clowers and Lilly Howell Farrar; four nephews, Darryl Haynesworth, Dale Haynesworth, James Haynesworth Jr. and Michael Haynesworth; specials relatives, Rhodie Jackson and Estelle China; and a host of cousins and many other beloved family and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his daughter, 1029 Porter St., Sumter.
The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. for viewing until time of service.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church USA, 4620 Queen Chapel Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton,  eulogist.
