Lilian Alteza Sheedy, 90, beloved wife of 58 years to Leo Joseph Sheedy Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at her residence.
Lilian was born in Iriga City, Philippines. She graduated from The Philippine Women’s University. While working for Philippine Air Lines, she met her husband, a USAF officer, while stationed on Luzon, and they were married in November 1965. Living in Japan, Okinawa, Philippines, Germany and the United States, she experienced many cultures that enhanced her charming personality. She studied Japanese flower arranging, earning a teaching license from the Sogetsu School. After Leo’s retirement, she owned and operated a business in Sumter and Ft. Jackson for 17 years selling embroidered linens, ladies apparel and jewelry. Coming from a family of three sisters and a brother, she developed an affectionate, accepting personality that endeared her to all who knew her. She was life’s safety net for her family, always available for love and support. Her religious devotion centered on attending Mass, the Fatima prayer group and praying the rosary. The annual Sto. Niño Festivals in Columbia and Sumter used her talent for exquisite decorating. She had a unwavering trust in God and a gentle resignation to His Will.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Sheedy; son Raymond Sheedy (Nancy); daughters, Leanne Buckner (Don), Lisa Oviatt (Chris); five grandchildren, Austin Richburg (Molly), Avey Greene, Sophia Greene, Ansley Sheedy and Ali Farris; along with many nieces and nephews in the Philippines.
