A Midlands man didn't win anything on his first lottery ticket purchased at the Corner Stop 118 on South Guignard Drive in Sumter, but his luck changed with the second ticket.
According to a Feb. 9 news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery, the man won $300,000, and the store received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
“It surprised me,” the winner told Lottery officials, who caught up with him after cashing in the winning ticket.
His first move as a winner:  “I paid off my house,” he said.
The win leaves one top prize of $300,000 in Max Money game at odds of 1 in 936,000.
