Philip Lester Anderson Sr., 77, passed away on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at his home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Phil was born on May 11, 1946, in North Augusta. He was a son of the late Eugene "Gene" Lester Anderson and Florence Murray Anderson. He attended Clemson University College of Architecture, where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture in 1969. He practiced his love of architecture in Charlotte and Sumter for more than 50 years.

Phil was a character. His passion for life was legendary among all who knew him. He truly marched to the beat of his own drums and was never happier than when he was playing them. He enjoyed music of all kinds, preferably played at high volume. He enjoyed being on the water, with Edisto Beach being his favorite place. He leaves a legacy to his children and grandchildren on how to be creative, unique and bring beauty to the world. His take on the world will leave us laughing and thinking forever. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons, Philip L. Anderson Jr. (Glynnis) of Irmo and Britton D. Anderson of Sumter; his grandchildren, Hunter, Miah, Chase, Caleigh and Carolina; his sister, Doris Ann Travis (Jack); and nieces, Stacey Moore and Stephanie Cassidy, all of Kentucky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard "Ricky" Stacey Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David Richardson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the exemplary care they provided to Phil and his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to share your stories and memories of Phil.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
