PINEWOOD - Rose Marie Newman Pack Cummings, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at 9890 Pack's Landing Road, Rimini, her family home.

Born on Jan. 1, 1940, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Turner Boyd Newman and Sara Frances Jones Newman. She was a 1963 graduate of Winthrop College, received a master's degree in early childhood education and wrote a book. She was just a few hours short of her doctorate degree. She taught at Manchester and Clarendon Hall for many years. She was an ambassador for the local school district, where she was able to visit China and observe in classrooms there. Rose was the matriarch of Pack's Landing. She was a member of Pinewood Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Lads, and sang with the choir. She was a soloist and loved to sing with her sister, Eleanor.

Surviving are her three sons, Joseph "Jody" Britton Pack III of Homosassa, Florida, Stephen "Stevie" Boyd Pack of Pinewood and Leander "Andy" Brian Pack of Rimini; six grandchildren, Brittany Huckeba (Drew), Wells Pack, Hannah Little (Larerick), Woods Pack, Britton Pack and Owen Pack; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Timmy Newman, Verne Newman, Boyd Newman and Paul Newman; and special friends, Iris Johnson, Sandra Elliott and Shirley Cogdill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Pack Jr. and Larry Cummings; a son, Tracy Pack; a brother, Ron Newman; and two sisters, Eleanor Hawkins and Annette Owens.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Pinewood Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Carlisle and the Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating. Burial will follow at Paxville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Stephens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Wells Pack, Tracy Woods Pack, William Britton Pack, Joseph Owen Pack, Rodney Johnson and Robbie Newman.
