Sumter County Council to consider final vote on feather flags

Sumter County Council will meet at 6 p.m. today in County Council Chambers, Sumter County Administration Building, 13 E. Canal St., to consider:

- Third and final reading of a request to amend portions of the county's development standards ordinance to allow certain fluttering devices, including feather flags, in the county;

- Second reading of a request to rezone a 1.9-acre portion of a 4.85-acre tract at 3425 Thomas Sumter Highway from general commercial to residential-9. In lieu of rezoning the property, council may consider a zoning ordinance amendment to add standalone cemeteries to the general commercial zoning district as recommended by Sumter Planning Commission, according to the agenda from Sumter County. A public hearing will be held prior to council's vote;

- Second reading of a request to amend the ordinance for a planned development at 350 Myrtle Beach Highway to allow the addition of used motor vehicle parts as a permitted use on 9.5 acres. Council will consider voting on the issue after a public hearing; and

- First reading of an ordinance to approve an intergovernmental loan agreement, to be secured by a mortgage, with the South Carolina Public Service Authority regarding 20 acres of property to construct an economic development building and adjoining building pad with the intent to attract a manufacturer to Sumter County.

In other news, county council will recognize the Explorers for Cherryvale Community Litter Pick-up as well as the participants in Sumter County's Summer Youth program.

It will also listen to a presentation about the Sumter County Information Technology Department by Larry Horne, head of the county's IT department, and Joe Perry, county communications director.

Before county council's regular meeting, Sumter County Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee will meet at 5:45 p.m. in County Council Conference Room to listen to and possibly take action on a request concerning a CSX track inspection report and receive a county financial update.
