Sumter man arrested for arson, another for burglary of cereal

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office provided the following arrests on Aug. 27, regarding a man who was charged with arson and another man who was charged with burglary after taking a box of cereal from a residence.

The following subject was arrested on Aug. 27, pursuant to a warrant issued on that same day.

Travis Jaron Dinkins, 28, of Mason Road, was charged with third-degree arson, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

A warrant said that Dinkins lit a towel on fire and threw it onto a vehicle belonging to a victim while it was parked on Stick Lane on Aug. 27. The fire caused approximately $2,000 in damage to the vehicle.

The following subject was arrested on Aug. 27, pursuant to a warrant issued on Aug. 20.

Joseph Pack, 36, of Dink Street, was charged with second-degree burglary, Sarvis said.

A warrant said that Pack forcibly entered a Babette Road residence without a victim's consent and took a box of cereal on Aug. 19. Pack was later observed eating that cereal.
