Sumter police seek help in investigation of fatal shooting outside Boulevard Road convenience store

A man was fatally shot outside a Sumter convenience store on Wednesday, and police are searching to identify the shooter.

After 8:50 p.m. on April 10, officers responded to a shots-fired call on Boulevard Road, where they found a man shot in the parking lot of Red Bay Grocery on Boulevard Road. Ray’Quan Dontrell Lamont Durant, 20, of Mooneyham Road, was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he later died, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for Sumter Police Department.

Next of kin has been notified by Sumter County Coroner’s Office, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

An investigation is ongoing as officers work to determine what led to the shooting and identify the shooter.
