The pharmacy at Rite Aid, 1077 Broad St. (in front of Sumter Mall), is set to close Oct. 3. According to an employee, the store's general merchandise area will close on or around Oct. 17.
According to a staff pharmacist, prescriptions will be automatically transferred over to the nearby Walgreens at 1000 Broad St.
Walgreens officially began purchasing about 2,000 Rite Aids across the U.S. last fall. Some reports indicate Walgreens will close about 600 of the locations in the process.
A Walgreens spokesperson could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
