Tri-county school districts, CCTC announce plans ahead of severe weather on Tuesday

Sumter, Clarendon and Lee school districts have announced closures and learning schedules ahead of Tuesday’s forecasted severe weather.

Sumter School District announced Tuesday will be an e-Learning day for all students and staff as schools and office buildings will be closed, according to Shelly Galloway, executive director of communication and community engagement. All activities, including athletic events and field trips, will be canceled.

As the district is an approved eLearning district, students will not have to make up Tuesday and will be able to complete eLearning assignments later if they are unable to participate because of power outages, lack of internet service or other barriers, the school district said.

Clarendon County School District also announced Monday afternoon that because of the inclement weather, students will have an e-Learning Day on Tuesday. All school activities and parent/teacher conferences have been canceled, according to the district, and student work will be in Google Classroom.

Lee County  School District will also designate Tuesday as an eLearning day, closing all schools and offices. All afterschool programs, field trips and extracurricular activities will be canceled.  

All Central Carolina Technical College campuses will close  Jan. 9 at 12:30 p.m. because of inclement weather, according to a news release from the college. Normal hours of operation will resume Wednesday, Jan. 10.
