Wilson L. Amerson, 90, widower of Jenelle L. Baker Amerson, died on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born on March 1, 1928, in Mayesville, he was a son of the late Roy Joseph and Vermelle Player Amerson. He was a member of Northside Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Amerson retired from the U.S. Army after more than 28 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. After serving his country, he returned home, where he was a farmer and businessman. He was also a Shriner.

He leaves to cherish his memory: five children, Wilson L. "Kirk" Amerson Jr. (Becky), Roy Joseph Amerson (Pansy), Sherry Amerson-Jackson (Thomas), Pamela Amerson-DuBose (Glenn) and Hiram Michael Amerson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bea Bonderer; and one brother-in-law, Charles Webb.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Webb and Betty Amerson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mark Barnette and the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Moseley, Wilson DuBose, Matthew Amerson, Ryan Amerson, Dale DuBose and Lisa Moseley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Watford, Carrol Barnette, Jay Davis, Dale Atkinson, Gary Atkinson and Louis Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 725 W. Emerald Lake Drive.

The family would like to express a special thanks to her doctors and caregivers.
