Woodrow Wilson Wells Jr., 83, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on June 18, 1940, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson Wells Sr. and Bertha Lynch Wells. He was retired from the United States Army with 20 years of service. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of South Carolina and was a retired social worker with the state of South Carolina. Mr. Wells loved golfing, the great outdoors and was a member of the Sumter Shaggers Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Taylor (Steven) and Susan Krouse (Mark); one son, Woodrow W. Wells III (Nancy); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wesley Wells (Gayle), Randy Wells (Connie) and Terry Wells (Lori); one brother-in-law, James Lupton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Lupton, and one brother, Jerry Wells.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Tonny Lupton.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is charge of the arrangements.
