Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Manning man in connection to the death of a local man shot Saturday afternoon.
According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Collins Street at about 4 p.m., where they found 36-year-old Bryan Dargan, of Sumter, with a gunshot wound.
Deputies attempted to provide immediate aid. Dargan was pronounced dead at the scene, Bordeaux said.
The suspect, Yul Iziah David, 32, of Manning, reportedly fled the scene after the shooting but deputies later located him at a home on Spaulding Avenue, with assistance from Sumter Police Department, Bordeaux said. Authorities also located a firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting.
Investigators learned that David and Dargan were acquaintances who had a disagreement and think David drew a weapon and shot Dargan several times.
David was taken into custody and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Bordeaux said.
He was taken to Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. His bond was denied, and he remains in custody.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis described the incident as a “senseless murder that should have never happened.”
“We are grateful for the community support that enabled our deputies to respond quickly and locate the suspect,” he added. “These men were acquaintances, and this is an isolated incident that does not pose a threat to our community.”
