MANNING - Two Manning teenagers have been charged with the Dec. 26, 2019, killing of 19-year-old Martavias Armstrong McKenzie, whose body was found lying partially in the roadway near Camilla Drive by Clarendon County deputies.

Jevon Isaiah Swanigan and Traevion Tylek York, both 18, were arrested on Jan. 23. Each teen faces one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Swanigan was also charged with minor in possession of beer, minor in possession of liquor and simple possession of marijuana.

Swanigan and York were taken to the Clarendon County Detention Center, and a circuit court judge denied bond for both on Thursday.

"It appears that a personal vendetta against Martavias Armstrong McKenzie was the motive for the murder," Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with any additional information about the case is asked to contact the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office at (803) 435-4414. Callers do not have to reveal their identity.

On the day after Christmas, Clarendon deputies responded to Camilla Drive about 10 a.m., where they found McKenzie's body with "apparent gunshot wounds," Baxley said following the shooting.

EMS who arrived determined the victim was deceased.

Baxley said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's Crime Scene Unit was called in to assist the sheriff's office in processing and investigating the scene.
